Randall & Schumacher, P.A. is currently pursuing litigation against the manufacturers of the Paragard IUD birth control device for injuries caused when the device breaks.  You should know that we are not suing the doctors and we believe that the doctors for the most part were not warned about the risks of  Paragard® device breakage by the manufacturer.  Randall & Schumacher, P.A. has represented women wrongfully harmed by pharmaceutical and medical devices for more than twenty-five years  Some of our past women-focused litigation includes Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT); transvaginal mesh devices for urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse; Taxotere chemotherapy (which caused permanent hair loss); and Essure® birth control devices.

The current Paragard® IUD litigation centers around a defect of the device which leads to the “T” style arms breaking before or during attempted extraction of the device.  The broken arms then result in further complications including additional surgeries to remove the broken pieces, excessive bleeding, device migration, embedment in the uterine wall, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, laparotomy, and hysterectomy.

We believe that the Paragard® IUD litigation is likely to show that the manufactures of this device took shortcuts in the design or manufacture of the device which led to an increased risk of breakage.  We also believe the litigation is likely to show the manufacturer should have warned doctors and patients of this risk of breakage earlier than they did.

If you or a loved one had or has a Paragard® IUD which led to arm breakage of the device causing injury or resulting in additional surgeries, please contact us today to discuss your legal options.
