Yaz Pulmonary Embolism
Yaz oral contraceptive first hit the shelves in the US in 2006; however, it wasn’t until 2009 that the FDA issued a warning about several serious health conditions and Yaz side effects including an increased risk of pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism is a serious health condition in which an artery in the lung is blocked so that blood cannot get through to the lung. If immediate emergency attention is not found, pulmonary embolism, or PE, can lead to fatality.
Women have the right to know that their birth control of choice has this serious health condition linked to it. It is because of Bayer Pharmaceuticals’, the makers of Yaz birth control, blatant disregard for women’s informational rights that several lawsuits have been filed against this company. If you or someone you love has taken Yaz birth control and have suffered from Yaz pulmonary embolism or any other complication, then it is important that you seek legal representation to obtain the financial compensation you deserve. Yaz related pulmonary embolism is thought to be due to the synthetic hormone, drospirenone, or DRSP, a fourth generation hormone that causes the blood to thicken and thus blood clots to form. DRSP has been linked to other serious health conditions caused by blood clots including heart attack, deep vein thrombosis and stroke.
Yaz PE Health Concerns
Many people who are facing Yaz pulmonary embolism do not experience any symptoms to indicate a problem. However, it is important to be aware of any of the following Yaz PE side effects:
- coughing up blood
- chest pain, dull, achy, stabbing or sharp
- pain in the neck, jaw, shoulder or arm,
- pain in the chest that increases when coughing or breathing
- a rapid pulse or weak pulse
- shortness of breath
- clammy or bluish skin
- excessive sweating and/or fever
- leg swelling
- wheezing, dizziness, fainting
Yaz Pulmonary Embolism Risks
It is important to understand that if you are taking Yaz birth control, you are automatically at a higher risk of Yaz pulmonary embolism. However, women in the following categories are placed in an even higher risk category for Yaz related stroke:
- If you are over the age of 35
- If you smoke more than 15 cigarettes per day
- If you have a family or personal history of pulmonary embolism or blood clots
Yaz Death
Pulmonary embolism often results in fatality simply because emergency crews cannot reach the patient in time. In fact, 33 percent of all untreated pulmonary embolism attacks result in death. Even those that have received medical treatment may be unable to live through the damage caused to the body. Losing a loved one is hard enough without knowing that the death may have been prevented with adequate information and packaging. Women should have been informed of the increased risks involved with taking Yaz birth control including PE and death.
