Yaz Problems

Yaz birth control has been linked to several serious medical complications and side effects that women were not warned about from the start. This includes health conditions such as heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism as well as deep vein thrombosis. There have been several other serious side effects and problems with Yaz including kidney damage, liver damage, and pancreatitis and gallbladder disease.

Yaz Kidney Disease

If you have a history of kidney, liver or adrenal disease, you should not be taking Yaz birth control.  Kidney infections are one of the most common side effects of Yaz and, if left untreated, can lead to kidney damage and failure in the future. Kidney infections often start out as urinary tract infections that move up to the kidneys. Be on the lookout for the following Yaz kidney infection symptoms:

  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Fever and chills
  • Lower back pain
  • Upset stomach
  • Constant need to urinate, painful urination
  • Blood in the urine

Yaz birth control has also been associated with kidney stones – painful little balls that develop in your kidneys. If you are experiencing severe pain or sharp cramping, vomiting or nausea, fever, chills, pain in the groin or blood in the urine, speak to your doctor right away.

Yaz Pancreatitis

There are currently several different studies investigating why Yaz birth control increases the risk of pancreatitis in women. Research has indicated that there is a link due to the increased blood levels of triglyceride and that the estrogen used in Yaz birth control is toxic to the pancreas in general. Pancreatitis comes in two different forms – acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. Women taking Yaz birth control should be aware that pancreatitis is a serious side effect and Yaz problem and be on the lookout for:

  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • pain in the upper abdomen or swollen abdomen
  • fever
  • rapid heart beat
  • weight loss
  • oily stools and/or diarrhea
  • pain when eating or drinking

Yaz Liver Problems

Another unwanted Yaz problem is liver damage, which is due to the synthetic hormone called drospirenone (DRSP). DRSP is known to thicken the blood in your body, causing unwanted blood clots. Furthermore, DRSP, combined with estrogen, is known to negatively impact the liver as well as other organs such as the pancreas and the kidneys. Anyone who is taking Yaz birth control should be on the lookout for the following symptoms of liver damage:

  • pain in the upper right abdomen
  • dark urine
  • jaundiced in the eyes

Yaz Gallbladder Problems

Yaz birth control has also been linked to several problems in your gallbladder including gallstones, inflammation, infection and obstruction of the gallbladder. Yaz birth control can elevate the level of cholesterol that goes into the liver. This can cause the liver to work overtime and increase the risk of gallstones which are formed from fatty deposits.   Furthermore, research indicates that the estrogen in Yaz birth control also directly reduces the activity of the gallbladder causing complications as well.
